Why Version Control Exists ?

In the starting era of software engineering there is no any VCS (Version Control System) exist still software projects are growing but when time to time technology’s are growing up and developers making big and complex projects so more then one developers work together on a single project.
Here the problems were started, when a group of developer work together they work distributively here every developer face the 1st problem how they work together because the source code of project will present in a single computer.
Then Pendrive come in game,It is solve one problem but create much more problem every developer started using pendrive for sharing code (one developer write code save it in a pendrive , He gives pendrive to another developer, That developer edit the code and copied it back) but then some new problems are come:-
1. OverWriting code:- when two developer work on same file One developer’s changes often overwritten the other’s work , there was no way to merge changes safely.
2. Fear of lose data:- if a file was deleted or corrupted or some one copied a wrong folder, there is no chance to rollback to previous code file.
3. No history:- There is no record of who change code, what change and when it was changed.
4. No proper collaboration:- only one person could work at a time and productivity of team work is very slow and creating confusion on file management.
History
Before git there was a version control system called “BitKeeper“ all Linux developers are use this but this is very slow , It was free but not fully free there was a special licence for use for free. In 2005 the free licence was withdrawn,Linux developers suddenly had no suitable version control system .
To solve this problem in the year of 2005 “Git“ was invented by Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux operating system.
The name “Git“ , It is a British slang meaning “silly people, foolish“.
